located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, Gaziantep is leading the industry and is the largest province in terms of population in the region.

Gaziantep has the busiest air transportation hub in Southeastern Anatolia. It is also the biggest exporter with the high volume of foreign trade in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions.

The ancient city DULUK which is located in Gaziantep is one of the oldest residential cities in Turkey. The researchers have found the artifacts from the copper ages and the oldest mathematical transaction known in the whole human history.

With more than 250 different food types Gaziantep Cuisine is the important part of varied assortment of Turkish Cuisine. The province, known as the home of pistachio and baklava, was awarded with the title “Gazi“ by the Turkish Parliament led by Atatürk in 1921 due to the heroic contributions during the Turkish Liberation War.

Gaziantep has two central districts, Sahinbey with population of 845,000 and Sehitkamil, with population of 710,000 and they have higher population than many other cities in Turkey.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Gaziantep Chamber of Industry is a professional organization depends on The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB). Chambers of Commerce and Industry are separated from each other in 12 provinces in Turkey and Gaziantep is one of these provinces. Gaziantep Chamber of Industry has been working for manufacturers and industrialists in Gaziantep since 1989. Registration to the chambers is compulsory in Turkey.

With the goal of offering better services to its members in a decent environment depending on the increasing number of members, Gaziantep Chamber of Industry is providing services in its new building since 2012. Gaziantep Chamber of Industry is serving in the 6 floored building which includes offices, training, meeting and seminar rooms, a dining hall, interview offices for our members since December 1, 2012 with the official inauguration.

GAZIANTEP GENERAL INFORMATION

Active Industrial Project, – 2000

Development Agency, and Member Representation Investment Development Service System was created by this project which was put in force to enter the new millennium by taking steps with more robust by our chamber.

Re-Exports Mobilization Project, – 2001

Some activities have done in order to increase export capabilities and market shares of small and medium sized enterprises those are member of Gaziantep Chamber of Industry in 2001. As a result of these studies, number of exporting companies have increased by 120 % and exporting figures of Gaziantep have increased by 880 %.

Quality Mobilization Project, – 2002

The establishment and development of quality infrastructure of members was targeted in 2002. In this context, our chamber has obtained ISO-9000 certification and supported obtaining quality certification by selected 5 companies of 5 different sectors with the system 5x5.

Trademark City ‘Gaziantep’ Project – 2003

Supporting trade-marking process and the activities to create genuine trademarks of GSO’s member. This project was awarded with a first prize in world chambers meeting in South Africa 2005.

City of Fairs, Gaziantep Project, – 2004

It’s aimed that our members to find new customers and markets with the project started in 2004. A modern exhibition space has been created in our city and the studies have been implemented for opening at least one fair every month.

Innovation Valley Gaziantep Project – 2006

R&D “Gaziantep Movement” Project – 2008

Supporting and improving the activities to create innovative products and R&D of GCI’s members.

“Smart Industry” Project (2009) – 2009

This Project is like a chassis of all the projects that we go through in last 10 years. It is like a road map for Gaziantep Industry. The companies should improve their exportation, consider quality, be open to branding and differentiation and assign a budget for Research & Development and innovation in order to protect competitiveness to survive in current market conditions. The Smart Industry Goods come up after all those will keep our firms’ competitive power at the highest level.

NEW PROJECTS OF GSO

POLATELI – SAHINBEY ORGANIZED INDUSTRIAL ZONE
Although the 5 of the organized industrial zones(OSB) are the biggest industrial zone in Turkey in total, “Polateli – Sahinbey Organized Industrial Zone” in Kilis – Gaziantep common border is planned in accordance with demands from industrial producers and the works are about to finish. The infrastructure works will start as soon as the legal procedures such as ÇED report completed in 2014.

 

ROAD CONSTRUCTION BETWEEN GAZIANTEP-POLATELI-HASSA-DORTYOL
Works for construction of the route of Gaziantep-Polateli-Hassa-Dörtyol that will provide access to the port of İskenderun-Dörtyol Zone are ongoing. Thus, the time to access to Iskenderun port from Gaziantep and other cities in east will be reduced. Thereby, the crowdedness in Mersin port will de-escalate, fuel saving will be achieved with a reduction of round-trip distance of 326 km in total and economic improvement of the zone of Kilis, İskenderun and Dörtyol will be obtained.

 

AIRPORT INDUSTRIAL ZONE
“Airport Industrial Zone” is known as this name because it’s close to Oğuzeli (a town in Gaziantep) airport, and provide employment to 2500 people with 100 companies. Main production units are; textiles, chemical and plastic products, food and machine-made carpets.

 

ENERGY EFFICIENCY CONSULTING INCUBATION CENTER
In cooperation with GAP Regional Development Administration and support of UNDP, an education center is established in order to conduct energy audits in industry and buildings across the region and prepare energy efficiency improvement plans in organized industrial zone of Gaziantep.

 

EXCELLENCE OF CARPET CENTER
In order to increase export capacity and competitiveness of SMEs in carpet sector, the Project has been created in cooperation with Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, İpekyolu Development Agency, University of Gaziantep and Southeastern Anatolia Exporters Union. Within project, a center of excellence which approximately will be 2000 m2 as closed area is planned to be established on the campus of Gaziantep University, Naci Topçuoğlu Vocational High School.

 

NONWOVEN FABRIC RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The project has been created in order to improve R&D, innovation and technological infrastructure of the region of nonwoven fabric sector in cooperation with Gaziantep Chamber of Industry, İpekyolu Development Agency, University of Gaziantep. Under project, a research and development center is planned to be established within University of Gaziantep.

 

GAZİANTEP VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COMPLEX
Since the studies done before for meeting demand for industry of Gaziantep’s need for qualified employees couldn’t success, our Chamber has decided to create a Vocational Training Complex by examining examples of various vocational training centers in Europe and in the other regions of our country. Education center is created in cooperation with İpekyolu Development Agency and has passed ministerial approval.

 

GAPLASDER- PLASTİC AND CHEMİCAL INDUSTRİALİSTS ASSOCİATİON

South East Plastic and Chemical Industrialists Association as GAPLASDER represent our industry's first and only association around region. Representing plastic Industry of the region, GAPLASDER has began it’s activities to find solutions to problems, follow up domestic and oversea fairs and participate, be in sectoral promotional activities, organize training seminars and conferences and in order to ensure the development of the industry make all kinds of activities.

 

GAZIANTEP INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS PROJECT
Our project will generate solutions to the problems encountered in these issues: Efficient use of the scarce resources
The reintegration of the waste resulting from production to the economies environmentally friended To dispose the waste that lost its economical value environmentally friended
The project will make a big contribution to joint work of the companies. Thus, our Project will also lead to the development of co-culture. Our Project which is carried out by the partnership of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep University and Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone, is in the process of establishing the feasibility report.

Industrial site is a zone for 88 model businesses over an 800 m2 covered area, allocating 350.000 m2 of land for each and is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). This site was established to act as a model and provide incentive to small and medium sized industries on operation volumes and production methods. The main sectors in this site are textile machinery, steel casting, automotive spare parts, steam boilers, dam equipment, grains and pulses process machinery, metal and wood process machinery and die and packing industry installations.

This is one of the first settlement regions in Gaziantep Industry, and about 700 small and medium sized firms are involved here. The majority of the firms are lentil processing, plastics and carpets.

The first zone that was active in the city-center before the establishment of Organized Industrial Zones and Small Industry Sites was Nizip Street; 150 firms are active in this region. In general, the firms those are active in this region manufacture plastics, shoes, flour, semolina, carpet, acrylic thread, cotton thread and metal goods. These operations have been surrounded by the city-center due to fast population increases and urbanization has the tendency of moving their production facilities in full or in part to the industrial zones.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Regarding to Turkey’s strategic and geographical framework, metal and machinery sector is expected to have the highest growing. Gaziantep has important place on milling machines, textile machines, and replacement parts in Turkey. The important subsectors of Machinery and Metal Sector of Gaziantep are below:
